| Looking at the archive pics and more recent hi res stormtrooper ref pics the colours are not as dark as the old school guys thought. Humbrol #15 looks almost black in pictures of fan boy suits. Dont use it.. Nowadays i use Humbrol French Blue #14 which seems a much better colour choice. It looks quite bright in close up photography but in normal portrait pictures indoors and out it looks so much better. So in future lets spread the word and get everyone using #14 Here is the archive ref [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here is my TM 1-5 replica suit using #14 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| It also looks like the buttons on the main button panel may have even been black underneath.. | |

| Has anyone looked at other brands for a closer match. As paints change over time there could be a better color from Tamiya or Valejo.
Just a thought. | |

| Wellll, its No;- 15 Midnight Blue. The reason for putting the pictures up was to show that how much lighting can affect the shade and the way we look at it. Those are my ab buttons when my TM was first built many moons ago and both pictures were taken with a flash and both were lightened for better clarity in PhotoEd. I never noticed the difference until Mark started to use the lighter No;14 and I revisted the photos again. I honestly think that 15 is too dark, but I'm really not sure if 14 is the right answer. One thing that I have found out is that the base colour does alter the shade, 14 looks far better over a black base then it does applying it straight on to white. Hopefully one day we'll find out and be able to nail that sucker and that will be one less detail to worry about [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |
