The new SFS printed helmet

Thought I might as well show it off here as well. Recently, a print was made from the SFS scan preserving all the details that are on the original and which was not part of the version that was milled from a block of foam.

This is about as close as you can get to the actual prop, without owning the original.

To start things off, here's a picture of the 3D scan model:



That was then printed in small scale first to see if keeping all the crisp details was possible before doing the full scale version. You may have seen the pictures before if you ever frequent The Den or the RPF, but I'll post new stuff as soon as I have it.

Hope you enjoy the pictures. Can't wait to show off the cast when I get it... and even more to try my hand at painting it.

This is a great little project and I can wait to see the mini lid in person

This is a cool little helmet. Here are a couple pics of mine on a desk spindle for a stand.



I got the spindle from Office max for about 2 bucks. It could even be cut down a bit if I wanted to lower the helmet.

Todd that is a perfect idea , when these get paint on them they are going to be a must for any office desk,car dash,display shelf and Cute is the exact word for them.

Very cool idea R2Dan, I'm with you on painting it, I'd love to see color on it, but being so small I'm a bit worried about messing it up.

Dan that's a brilliant idea for a stand.

I think I will paint mine but mine is going to be a birthday present for me so Im going to have to wait.

In the meantime Tamiya do a rubber-effect paint if it helps anyone.

I'm convinced that by painting it, too much printed detail will be lost. Like the fine lines in the tears&traps and the tube stripes and even the visible chippings (especially on top of the mini SFS!).

Kudos to all who decide on painting it anyways... I love the mini lid, even unpainted.

I was thinking about getting a second one but 2 are a bit too pricey for me.
